Stephen Witty grew up in Manhattan (NYC), started listening to his older brother's jazz records as a child, and as a teenager sneaked into Birdland, Basin Street, and the Village Vanguard to take in the jazz giants of that era --- Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Charles Mingus, etc. His love of jazz has never left him.
He now lives on a small ranch in Nathrop, Colorado. He practices as a psychologist and Jungian psychologist. He also paints, makes photographs and documentary films, and has published poetry and short fiction. His photographs have been exhibited in Salida and Colorado Springs, Colorado, in Huntington and Cortland, New York, in Essex, Vermont, and at the Louisville, Colorado Art Association where he won 2nd Place in the 2014 National Photography Show. In 2014 he was also chosen as one of twenty artists to participate in the CSArt Project, a joint venture of the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and the Denver Botanical Gardens.
