A Rooster in the Henhouse
Tuesdays 1-4pm
Hosted by “Boomer.”
Yep, he’s one of the lucky guys that gets to do a show on Khen. Tuesday afternoons, from 1 to 4 you’ll find him around the ol’ music boxes scratching out some tunes. Who knows what he’ll find. Little news, little weather, some bits of tid as well as an interview now and then, but mostly music. He’ll keep a lookout for that old lying Fox trying to carry out its evil doer deeds, then he’ll crow about it as loud as he can. He’s “Boomer.” Join him on 106.9 or catch the show streaming on www.khen.org.

kHEN Radio Theater
Sundays 6-8pm
Hosted by John and Bob.
There was a time before the iPods, Video on Demand, 3D, the Internet and online video games; back in the day sitting around the living room radio was a family tradition. Every night, families and their neighbors would come together and listen to radio broadcasts of Sherlock Holmes, Groucho Marx, The Avenger, Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, Superman and more. Radio broadcasts were so much a part of everyday life they could influence mass movements, such as the night Orson Welles told millions about an impending alien invasion… a “War of the Worlds.” Re-live those times with vintage shows from radio’s golden age and tune into kHEN’s Old Time Radio Theater.
Join us every week as we turn back the clock on kHEN Radio Theater.

Latino/Chicken Dance Polka Party
Wednesdays 4-5pm
Hosted by Elizabeth.
The Latino part of the Program is an international program with a Latino beat. The music can come from any country in the world, but if it has a Latino beat, it can well be played on the Latino Program. I speak Spanish throughout the program and also include a Golden Oldie (una cancion antigua) and a Dicho which is an old folk wisdom passed from generation to generation, in Spanish of course, with a translation.
The Polka part of the show is the Chicken Dance Polka Party. Here we listen to favorite polkas and waltzes, also to be considered international since many of the polkas and waltzes are sung in Polish, German, Czech, Spanish, Slovenian, Croatian, etc. It’s old world music which is kept alive here in the United States by many of the different ethnic groups. It’s the happiest folk music around.

TUESDAY MORNING DJ at kHEN
by John F. Skinner (c) April 2009)
Here every Tuesday morning playing music from somebody’s past.
If it’s really old stuff, you know it’s meant to last.
Ballads about old cars, days, and friends. Recalling old times and places.
Sometimes you remember where you were, sometimes fortune erases.
Nostalgia we never forget even though the memory’s barely true,
Words and music recalling faces, some we never really knew.
Memories clouded by desire become facts that never were.
We remember him or her with a fondness that was never sure.
There were all those wonderful dances, box steps two, three, and four,
Ruffles and bow ties, cravats, and sleek satins, orchid in a box, holding the door.
Swing Time, The Big Bands, and Orchestras. Leaders in tails and white ties
Playing love songs, Boogie, and memories, bringing smiles and tears to dry eyes.
106.9 kHEN every Tuesday morning 8 AM till 10
The same time every Tuesday morning come back again and again.
