A Collaboration with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra

KHEN LP Salida community radio has commenced a multi-year collaboration with the Colorado Symphony (CS) to bring more of the highest quality classical music to Salida. Other local entities currently participating in the collaboration are the City of Salida, the Salida SteamPlant, Salida Public Schools and the new Salida Creative District. The collaboration’s initial offering is a Thursday evening concert series in Salida beginning Fall 2012 and continuing through Spring 2013. Each visit by the CS or its ensembles will include a special daytime concert and other music education opportunities for local public, private and home-schooled children. Click here for more information

CS performances being presented are:

• November 8, 2012: CS String Orchestra at Salida SteamPlant
• February 7, 2013: CS Percussion Ensemble at Salida SteamPlant
• April 4, 2013: CS Woodwind Quintet at Salida SteamPlant
• June 30, 2013: Full Symphony Orchestra at Riverside Park

This collaboration with the CS accomplishes important missions for each organization involved. It reinforces KHEN’s role as a vital community asset and voice, and enhances Salida’s reputation as a destination to hear the finest classical music. It also offers unique educational opportunities for local students and contributes to Salida’s and Chaffee County’s economic vitality. It enables the CS to move towards becoming a truly statewide orchestra in Colorado, serving all citizens. The collaboration also aligns perfectly with, and augments, Salida’s new Creative District, one of only two such districts in the state. To complement and promote the concert series, a new KHEN radio program dedicated exclusively to recordings of the CS is currently being developed to commence Fall 2012. Watch for details.

Series sponsorships and subscriptions are available to both businesses and individuals. KHEN and the CS are asking potential sponsors to express their philanthropic support for this innovative partnership that advances quality of life of Chaffee County and regional residents, presents educational and arts enhancement opportunities, and bolsters the stature of Salida’s Creative District.

Subscriptions are priced at $45 for all three ensemble concerts, or $65 for a complete package including the full symphony concert at Riverside Park in June 2013. Subscriptions include VIP seating and complimentary admission to the kickoff event described below. Single tickets are $20 per ensemble concert and $25 for the concert at Riverside Park. A gala “Meet and Greet” series promotional launch has been scheduled at the Salida SteamPlant at 5:00 PM on October 16 and will be open at no charge to the general public. Representatives of the CS, including its President and CEO, Gene Sobczak, and its Executive Vice President, Tony Pierce, will attend to meet the public and share their excitement about the CS’s collaboration with Salida. Light hors d’ouvres will be served. Silent and live auctions will be held as fundraising events.
